Depending on how bad my hangover is, my usual go-to method cure is either a metric ton of carbs, or just start drinking again, but George Strait has his own method.
The icon of country music has had his fair share of hangovers. At the age of 72, he's been on the music scene for long enough and surely attended plenty of parties. But, with parties come hangovers, and George Strait has revealed how he kicks them the next day.
Speaking to The Daily Beast he revealed that his cure is Menudo. This Mexican dish is a tripe soup. The ingredients are cow stomach, a stomach molé, or sauce, and a whole selection of Mexican chili. As someone who has eaten it several times, I can vouch for it as a killer hangover cure.
The Mexicans do a lot of things particularly well, and stomach-settling food is certainly up there. A country that loves to drink and party like Mexico sure knows how to sort themselves out the next day too.
Strait Strays Away From The Hangover These Days
At the age of 72, George Strait tries to stay away from anything that will give him a hangover. But, he is still a country musician, and you don't make a living from singing about whiskey, women, and woes without the occasional drinking session.
He has chosen well with his hangover cure too. The soup, which is particularly spicy, is known for its healing properties. It can kick anything, from a head cold to a bout of the day after depression. It takes a long time to make and is usually shared among many.
George Strait keeps it country with his hangover cure, borrowing from the south's well-loved neighbors. Mexican culture has always had a part in country music, with the borders running so close. The south has been heavily influenced by the food and music culture of Mexico, apparently also lending its hangover cures.
Using Menudo, or Mondongo as it is also known, as a hangover cure is a lot more healthy than drinking again. It is also full of delicious nutrition, if the idea of eating cow's stomach doesn't put you off too much.
