Steak has always been a popular food item, even in 1861 when Lincoln was president. Delmonico's was one of New York City's first steakhouses and based on Lincoln's continued presence in the restaurant, one of the best. He not only enjoyed steaks there but he also met with fellow politicians. According to Mashed, Lincoln's favorite dish here was potatoes gratin. Turns out the steak isn't the only delicious thing on the menu.

4. Richard Nixon: Ho-Ho-Kus Inn & Tavern in Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey

As a Jersey native I am proud that our state makes it onto the list of favorite steak houses of U.S. presidents. Nixon visited this restaurant several times a year with his wife Pat. He even hosted the occasional dinner there with fellow politicians, dignitaries, and journalists. When he wasn't enjoying a steak this president's go-to-meal was the roast veal with asparagus and mushroom sauce.

5. John F. Kennedy: Martin's Tavern in Washington, D.C.

So much so that it is the alleged place he proposed to his wife Jacqueline Bouvier. Whether or not that tale is true, the restaurant went with the story and even installed a placard at the booth that the couple was sitting at when it happened.
