Food recalls have become so widespread that retailers such as Target are having to use automated robocalls to alert customers to recalled items.
Over the past few years, an enormous amount of products have had to be recalled across the US due to various diseases in the foods. Recently, US distributor checks have become increasingly slack, causing huge outbreaks of E. Coli, Salmonella, and many others.
As a result, Target has had to resort to using alarming automated messages to alert their customers of recalled items. On November 4th, many customers across the country received the robocall. It stated "Hi, this an important, recorded product recall message from Target," The robot opens. "A recall was announced for select varieties of cucumbers due to the potential of being contaminated with salmonella. Our records indicate that someone with this number purchased an impacted variety of cucumbers." It continues "Consumers should immediately stop using the products and check Target.com for impacted purchase dates. if you have products purchased within the impacted timeframe, please contact us at Target.com/contactus for the next steps."
This weird message comes after a total of 68 people infected with salmonella have been reported from 19 states. Furthermore, 82% of them reported eating this particular brand of cucumber before falling ill. This is the reason for the strange cold call asking for all Target cucumbers to be recalled.
Huge Outbreaks Across Target And Other Retailers Resulting in Recalled Items
This weird robocall is just a result of the massive amounts of items that are constantly being recalled from many retailers, including Target. Over the past few years, more outbreaks of deadly diseases have been found in food products, produced and distributed by US companies.
A huge outbreak of E. Coli has been found across the country, stemming from McDonalds. The Quarter Pounder was found to be responsible, with investigations pinning it to the onions. These had been produced by California-based Taylor Farms. The outbreak resulted in 104 people becoming sick, with one dying.
Since, this investigation has been shut down. Now, the burger is only expected to kill you through heart disease rather than E. Coli. However, the recalled target cucumbers are still a threat. So, if you have some from the retailer in your fridge, keep your ears open for that weird robocall.
