In the US, fewer people are eating out than ever before. And, it's not surprising, when you look at how expensive your favorite fast food chain has got. But, one of them in particular is getting grilled for being the most extortionate.
If you ask me, fast food is supposed to be two things: Fast and cheap. If I wanted to spend a lot of money on a meal, I want it prepared well, and served at a nice table, with a bottle of something delicious. Fast food is served in a bag or a bucket, with a paper cup full of carbonated sugar. It's hardly fine dining. This is why some fast food chains are being slammed for becoming way too expensive, without cause.
You probably won't be surprised to hear that it's Shake Shack that has taken the number one spot for the fast food chain Americans consider to be way too expensive. They come just ahead of Five Guys and Sugar Factory. All three have been blasted online for being obscenely overpriced.
Shake Shack Gets The Shakedown For Expensive Fast Food
The study, done by Preply, shows how many people think that Shake Shack is way too expensive for fast food. But, the sentiment is also shared online. Many people have taken to social media to complain about the extortion they have undergone for the sake of a shake and a few burgers.
One unhappy customer on Reddit complains about their expensive Shake Shack fast food prices. "This is the first time I'm complaining about food prices. 2 single burgers, 2 cheese fries, and 2 shakes for $49.16. Seems pretty ridiculous." And yeah, I can completely sympathize. Really, that should be getting you a nice sit-down meal, not an on-the-go, ultra-processed hamburger. Fast food is as expensive as a mid-range restaurant dinner.
But, one user has a tip for anyone looking to make their fast food experience a little less expensive. So, if you're looking to save some pennies, maybe take this advice. "My recommendation, as a person who works at Shake Shack is to skip having 2 fries and get one to share. It'll bring the cost down marginally," they advise. Additionally, they say "Here's a tip: if you have a friend who works at Shake Shack, they get 20% off the clock when with family or friends. Make sure you bring them along though."
So, if you're trying to avoid spending a fortune on expensive Shake Shack fast food, start making friends with the staff.
