When you're hankering for a fast food burger, it's important to get the best of the best, so check out what this expert considers the king.

George Motz is a man after my own heart. He is considered one of the leading voices in the US on hamburger history and methodology. Being an American burger expert is a high title to claim. Speaking to the DailMail, he revealed what his favorite fast food burger in the country was, as an expert on the matter.

Now, this doesn't include gourmet burgers or homemade masterpieces. This is strictly a burger you can pick up from a fast food joint, whipped up by some underpaid student, and eaten by hand in a car lot or from a plastic tray.

For burger expert George Motz, three fast-food burger spots sit head and shoulders above the rest. First is In-N-Out, second is Shake Shack, and third comes Five Guys. He can justify his decisions, however controversial, too.

What Makes A Favorite Fast Food Burger Join According To An Expert

We all have reasons for returning to our favorite fast-food burger joint time and time again. It might be the way they prepare their patties, or it could be the sauce they use. Maybe you have a crush on one of the servers and hope they will notice you. For George Motz, it's a little more nuanced.

First and foremost comes the love for the craft. "A lot of the fast food models are not really based on any sort of care about what goes into the product, it's just about making money and getting it out there," he said. "'They think "this is a product that is not supposed to be too special. We can cut corners. We can do freezing. We can use crappy buns."

This, for many, is the first place they fall. In-N-Out, he says, holds its number one spot because they haven't lost their quality standards. It might be a fast-food burger, but that doesn't mean it has to be low quality.

But, it's more than just the burger and fries, it's the smile that comes along with it too. "The fast-food model is trying to remove the face from the food, they're trying to remove the hospitality side. However, 'In-N-Out still has that connection," Motz says, with love in his eyes. "You walk in and they smile at you. There's a reason why they love their jobs."

The human aspect of a place is something so much of the service industry is losing. I would prefer a ratty and blunt server than a faceless kiosk any day. At least it makes for a chuckle.

These two elements are what, for burger expert Motz, make for the best fast food burger. Service with a smile, and high-quality ingredients. Is that too much to ask for?
