Rather than let the controversial restaurant die, Kelly Clarkson has decided to try to breathe a bit of life into the ragged, busty, corpse of Hooters.
The bit, which must have been paid for, was originally aired on The Kelly Clarkson Show. It's a bit from way back in 2020 when Hooters first began its downward spiral. Now, as they continue to struggle, she has posted the clip to her Instagram again.
It seems like a weird sponsorship for Hooters, but there it is on The Kelly Clarson Show nonetheless. The remarkably unfunny clip can't have cost Hooters much, or at least I hope it didn't. The short video features Fortune Feimster wheezing into the screen shouting about ranch dip.
As she waves a Hooters flag on the set of The Kelly Clarkson Show, Feimster shouts "Where else can you see waitresses wearing pantyhose and tank tops at 11 AM on a Tuesday?" She then goes on, "It's more than just a restaurant to me. It's normalcy, it's connection, and it's the reassuring aroma of a freshly mixed ranch."
I am not sure where the joke lay in the sketch. However, Kelly Clarkson found it hilarious and can be heard cracking up in the background. Finally, Feinster signed off, "They're hurting and they need our support. That's why I'm proud to stand up here today with you Kelly to support the people that make Hooters or any restaurant special."
Hooters Are Getting Desperate
The changing attitudes of diners have left Hooters with a declining clientele. Previously, when US society deemed it okay to sexualize a waitress, Hooters certainly had a USP. Now, though, we've been reminded that our servers are people, and maybe using their bodies as a selling point is a little weird, especially in a family restaurant.
This pairs with the declining interest in restaurant chain dining in the US. Now, companies like Hooters are having to throw what remaining money they have on Kelly Clarkson sponsorships. I doubt this one will work though. The bizarre and unfunny clip makes me never want to set foot in one again, even for their amazing wings.
