As a beer drinker, finding out you're intolerant to gluten is like losing a family member. That thing that was there in your time of need, the one thing you dreamed about on a hot day, the lubricant to your social existence, is gone. But, never fear, all is not lost. There are a few gluten-free beers out there that actually aren't half bad.
It can be hard to find a decent beer without gluten. I'll be honest: a lot of them are terrible. I would prefer to drink a cider or, god forbid, a seltzer. But, as beer technology has progressed, these ones have come out tasting almost indistinguishable from regular old beer.
Ghostfish Brewing Co
Ghostfish Brewing Co is your typical microbrewery-style beer company with its fancy-looking cans, crazy tastes, and experimental brews. But they also make beer without a bit of gluten in it. I can recommend Meteor Shower pale larger for a brew you can drink all evening. If you fancy an IPA, then their Fresh Hop goes down a treat when it isn't sold out. They ship to 40 states, so grab yourself a crate.
Greens
A no-nonsense beer brewing company with a simple goal in mind. They provide great-tasting beer without the negative effects of gluten. They have a small selection, including IPA, lager, amber ale, a Dubbel, and even a Tripel. Its beers are meticulously made, and they have opted not to go for the over-the-top labels usually seen by small breweries. Nobody would ever know you were drinking a bespoke beer if you popped one of these at the cookout.
Glutenberg
This is a brewery based in Ontario, but they have started distributing around the US now, too. Their beer is becoming widely available in stores and drinking establishments. They specialize in a decent range of gluten-free beers for all tastes. They take meticulous care to ensure their beer is completely free of gluten, to the point where even celiacs are safe to drink it. I have to say, I appreciate that they ship it in 16oz cans, too. Those shorties just disappear too fast.
Ground Breaker
I didn't intentionally choose all of these gluten-free beer brands because they begin with the letter G; it just happened that way. Something about that letter makes for a good brewery, I guess. This particular brewery makes a few fantastic beers without any gluten at all. Their beers are all brewed in a gluten-free process, and they have a huge selection built up over their 10 years of business. Some of their seasonal or limited edition beers are amazing.
