Whiskey is already known for helping with certain things, like being sad, social anxiety, and achieving a massive hangover, but did you know it also has some pretty interesting qualities when it comes to bacteria?
In a video that has blown up online, a scientist decides to see the effects of whiskey on some live bacteria. On a glass plate, the bacteria can be seen wriggling around. But as soon as the drop of whiskey hits them, it's game over. They die immediately.
The tiny amount of whiskey completely neutralizes the bacteria under the microscope. If you didn't already love whiskey, you've now got at least one reason to start. As a cleaning agent, both in and out of the body, it's incredible.

The footage shows the bacteria freezing in place as soon as the whiskey hits it. This can work for a number of other alcohols, too. I've met a fair few people in my time who swear that a shot of something strong is the secret to their long, healthy lives.
Balkan people will often take a shot of Rakia with an espresso first thing in the morning. This is another distilled alcohol that is as good as a cleaning agent as an intoxicant. Looking at this video, it's clear to see why it works so well.
Too Much Of A Good Thing
Whenever I get a sore throat, one of my go-to drinks is a nice scotch whiskey to kill the bacteria. Combined with a little honey and lemon and warmed up, it's a surefire way to keep healthy in winter. However, there are good bacteria in the body, too.
It's important to remember that too much of a good thing can be bad. It's important to look after your gut bacteria. Whiskey may kill off a lot of the bad guys, but it'll have a pretty good go at the others, too. Just make sure, if you're knocking back a few shots, to maintain that healthy bacteria the next day.
I usually balance it out with some sour cream on my tacos on the way home.
